Leading Indian IT company Infosys Technologies on Wednesday announced a tie up with cloud infrastructure services provider, Amazon Web Services to develop quantum computing applications for its enterprise customers.
Infosys is planning to explore numerous use cases under its Infosys Cobalt cloud offering. These cases include logistics, finance and telecom.
Amazon Braket provides an on-demand cloud service which enables scientists and developers to build quantum algorithms, conduct advanced simulations, and run experiments on this cutting edge but emerging technology.
Earlier during the year, Indian Electronics and IT Ministry (MeitY) had set up the MeitY Quantum Computing Applications Lab in association with Amazon.
Currently, leading technology companies and several countries are chasing new developments in this arena. Different companies are pursuing different approaches to developing and sustaining qubits. And several companies such as Amazon, Google, IBM and others are trying to build multi-qubit quantum processors.
The Indian IT company also points out in its release that it is exploring partnerships with startups in the quantum space through the Infosys Innovation Network (IIN).
Quantum computing has the potential to radically alter much of the world as we know it today. The very unique quantum properties allow computing based on them to solve for unique challenges such as faster drug discovery.
